I have a few Sectional title properties in the inner city i.e. Berea and Hillbrow. I have been trying unsuccessfully for the last 8-12 months to get a rates bill from JHB city council. I have tried their website, sent emails, and telephoned numbers to no avail. I can understand why the city council is bankrupt. Nobody mans their telephones or monitors email addresses.
1) Can anybody suggest a way that I can get through to them?
2) Do Sectional title properties pay rates? Can anybody give an indication of what the rates charges are?

Ed, did you ask the estate agents e.g. Mamela, Down Town Properties? When ever I was given a figure it was something like R50-R100 Rand in those areas. However, I guess they much have gazetted that somewhere as Cape Town has.

Hi Marcl

The amount is not so important. Whats more important to me is the fact that I can't get through to them to register/pay. now I'm afraid that an arrears account is starting to stack up in my name.

Yes, sectional title pay rates since a few years. As I said try to find the relevant gazette. Then you know how much you have to pay and can plan for it. Should you get the bill you have the funds waiting. Are they maybe on www.hellopeter.com? I did not get a bill for a year or so too despite me begging. Then it was wrong and it took forever to get it right. Only then I paid.
